What is Sitecore?

Founded in 2001, in Denmark, Sitecore is a groundbreaking Content Management System, (CMS). By storing content as XML objects in a database, Sitecore allowed the clean separation of content from presentation, enabling true multi-channel delivery and content re-usability.

Sitecore expanded further with the addition of sophisticated marketing tools, bringing A/B Testing, Personalisation, and Engagement Management. The platform continued expanding, adding Email management, Forms. Search and more.

While the platform became something of a large monolithic system, requiring specially trained developers and increasing costs, it still retained its standout content management abilities, and incredible flexibility, enhanced with the addition of accelerators such as SXA (Sitecore Experience Accelerator).

And now, in the age of the true headless CMS, Sitecore is offered as a SaaS (Software as a Service) product, with the core CMS separated from the other aspects of a modern CMS. Functionality such as personalisation, Customer Data Management and Search have been migrated to discrete SaaS products themselves, allowing a customer to pick and choose which services they integrate, allowing the creation of a composable CXP (Customer Experience Platform) with the same world class content management features.

As a true SaaS product Sitecore enable powerful cross channel delivery, reduced infrastructure costs through CDN content delivery, (Vercel, Netlify) and easy micro-service integration through modern app frameworks such as Next.js
