*This is a the second part of a series of how we’re using AI internally at Engage Squared.

When we heard about Copilot Agents in SharePoint, our marketing team couldn’t wait to dive in. The idea of having a tool that helps you find exactly what you need in a hurry while also letting you explore options dynamically felt like a game-changer for how we support consultants and our client engagement teams.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been exploring how Copilot Agents in SharePoint can improve the way we work with and interact with our content. Here’s what we’ve discovered so far and why we’re excited to continue unlocking the potential of Copilot Agents in SharePoint.

What is a Copilot Agent within SharePoint?

A Copilot Agent in SharePoint is an AI-powered assistant that helps you interact with your SharePoint content in a smarter, faster, and more intuitive way. Built directly into your SharePoint page (no coding required yay!) these agents are designed to enhance your experience by making information easier to find and tasks easier to complete.

Here’s what they can do:

  • Search intuitively: You can ask natural language questions like, “What’s the latest project update?” or “Show me documents related to marketing strategy,” and get immediate, relevant results.
  • Summarise content: Copilot can quickly summarise key points from documents or pages, saving you time when reviewing information.
  • Assist with tasks: Need to locate a file, compile information, or gather insights? Copilot helps streamline these tasks, so you can focus on what matters most.
  • Stay secure: The agent respects SharePoint’s existing permissions, ensuring that users only access the information they’re authorised to see.

How we are using Copilot Agents in SharePoint

We knew we wanted to test out these agents, so we started by asking ourselves: what’s a question we get all the time in the marketing department? The answer was clear: “Do we have a case study for ____”

It’s a common request, and for good reason. Case studies are one of our most powerful tools for storytelling, pitching, and preparing for meetings.

That’s why we decided to pilot the SharePoint Copilot Agent with our case study library. It was the perfect use case: a focused, high-impact problem with clear benefits if solved. Now, instead of chasing down answers manually, anyone in the organisation can simply ask Copilot, “What case studies do we have for retail clients?” or “Show me examples of projects with a high ROI,” and get an instant response.

You might be wondering, “Why not just use Copilot in BizChat to find case studies?” Well, the thing is, while BizChat is great, it could accidentally pull in case studies that are still in draft form or even snippets from PowerPoint files. By using this approach, we can be confident that the information is coming from a curated, up-to-date source.

Using SharePoint pages to draft content

The standard Copilot agent, without customisation, provides a solid starting point for working with on-site content. For example, on our project pages, I can quickly use the agent to pull relevant information directly from the content displayed. It then references our template guides to draft initial outputs, such as case study summaries or project highlights.

This approach ensures the generated content aligns with the structure we typically use, making it easy to refine and finalise. It’s not about producing a finished product but creating an efficient way to kickstart content creation using reliable, on-page information.

Who can create Copilot Agents in SharePoint?

To get started, you’ll need to ensure you have edit permissions on SharePoint to create agents. This can include site owners, editors, members, or admins, depending on the permissions set within your SharePoint.

Conclusion

While we’re just scratching the surface, it’s clear that Copilot Agents offer practical, time-saving solutions that allow us to focus on what matters most—creating value for our teams and clients!

If you haven’t tried them yet, we highly recommend giving them a go. And don’t forget to share how you’re using Copilot Agents, we’d love to hear your ideas and experiences.
